2019 books to gift tiny babies

If you know someone who has a tiny baby who needs a gift for this holiday season, you need this stack of books! They’re so cute, fun to read (over and over and over…), and they’re not the typical new-baby books.

Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes by Mem Fox and illustrated by Helen Oxenbury is my absolutely most-gifted book for people who are pregnant. It shows kids all over the world being born in different environments and united in their 10 fingers and 10 toes. The illustrations are sweet. The repetitive text is peaceful, and while I may have read this one 450 times, I still love when my kids bring it to me for bedtime reading.

There are a million similar “That’s not my ___” books by Usborne, and this one is our favorite. Each page features a different sensory bit to touch, which my kids have always loved, and a different adjective to describe it, which I feel good teaching them. The books are short, which is perfect for young kids with tiny attention spans.

Bear on a Bike is our most favorite, though there are several books in this collection by Stella Blackstone and Debbie Harter. The rhymes are fun, and the images are rich in color and detail. Each time we read them we find new detail in the pictures that we love.

Please Baby, Please by Spike Lee and Tonya Lewis Lee and illustrated by Kadir Nelson shows a day in the life of a mama when baby wakes up super early. The text is simple and sweet, and the images include details that warm my mama heart- little clocks showing at what time each event is happening (up at 4AM!), dumping cheerios on its head, and so on through the day. It ends in the cutest way, with baby up out of bed asking for one more kiss.

Sandra Boynton is unquestionably a genius of children’s books, and Moo, Baa, La la la! is our super favorites. It’s quirky and quick, so those “one more time, mama” requests were honored over and over again.

Nina Laden’s Peek-a-Who is another of my go-to gifts for baby showers. The text all rhymes and there are peek-a-boo flaps to pull. The last flap reveals a mirror, which my kids enjoyed even when they were super young!

We hope the new babies in your lives enjoy these great books this holiday season.
